problem solved

i solved my dilemma of which artist to do my research project on :) i have chosen andy goldsworthy.  he works with nature and uses no unnatural materials for his art.  I am really interested in his work.  i found a documentary film about him and his work, titled Rivers and Tides.  I am currently watching it and love it so far.  He is really inspiring.

any suggestions?

soo i have this visual culture assignment that's due november 13th.  It's a research project on an artist and their practice.  I am currently trying to research some different artists that I find interesting.  I am really interested in installation work, as well as many other things.  But I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of some cool artists that I could research. If you do, comment please :)

Tu me manques

So I have decided that I really miss living in Quebec.  This past summer I lived in Quebec City for a month and a half and went to Laval University to take french courses.  I was in a program called "Explore".  It was basically a program run through the Canadian government and it gave students who were accepted a $2000 bursary to live there and take classes for the summer.  It was amazing and I highly recommend the program for anyone who is slightly interested in the french language.  I learned a lot of french while I was there because you are fully emerged in the language.  I also met a lot of really cool people who I will never forget.  I became really close with three other girls and we still keep in touch.  Their names are Sydnee, Marissa and Angela.  We are all planning to go back next summer to reunite.  Sure I learned lots of french,  but the thing I will always remember about this experience is the people I met and the things we did.  I mean I was in Quebec City for the summer by myself with no parents the summer after graduating high school.  I loved it.  It kind of made me wish that I didn't still live at home with my parents because I really liked having the independence, but then I also realized how much I missed my family and how lucky I am to have such a wonderful one.  I really miss being able to speak french every day.  I had gotten so used to automatically speaking french in public places.  When I came back to Halifax it felt very strange to hear people around me in public speaking the english language.  My family noticed that I had a slight accent on some words as well which was a bit weird.

in love with wearable art

So i havent blogged in a while, I've been sick with mono for the past few weeks so I am currently finishing to get caught up on all of my work that I missed.  Having mono was gross, but Im glad to be getting better now.
Today was my last class of my first module, ISP, and our final project was a wearable art piece.  I made a bodysuit with padded muscle in the front.  The back had an assortment of things including a medal, a number, and some text.  I have done gymnastics for pretty much my whole life and my goal was to show how strong gymnastics has made me, not necessarily physically but mostly a stronger person.  I also wanted to communicate life skills that the sport has taught me.  We had a fashion show and had to wear our art in front of the class.  Everyone brought in music that they thought suited their art piece.  The class was really fun, and I really enjoyed seeing other peoples' ideas and results.  Some of the pieces incorporated humor, which I loved.
Our class had a party too since it was our last day together.  Everyone brought in some food, so there were lots of yummy treats :)
